Parenting Toolkit bookletParenting Toolkit Day

Friday, 28th January 2011

9:30am – 4pm

We had a very successful day on the 28th at Wellington House delivering training for the Valuing People Team.

Staff and parents from Greenwich Advocacy Project and Camden and the Parents Project at the Elfrida Society provided training in how to use the parenting toolkit to improve outcomes.

An information stall was provided by Lambeth Accord parent’s project. This project will sadly close in March. They will be a sad loss from the London Network of Parents with Learning Difficulties. There seems to be a pattern emerging across London boroughs that advocacy and support for parents with learning difficulties is not prioritised in times of spending cuts. The next meeting will discuss funding issues for parenting work for parents with learning difficulties.

17 London boroughs were represented and signed up to be parenting champions and to take the parenting agenda forward in their partnership boards. A film of the training is being made and will be on www.londonparents.net by the end of March.

  • Come and find out what your Partnership Board needs to do for parents with a learning disability
  • The day will focus on how to use the Parenting Toolkit so that you can make local services for parents with a learning disability better.
  • It will also help your Partnership Board to do what Valuing People Now says needs to happen for parents with a learning disability.
  • Wellington House
    133-155 Waterloo Road
    London, SE1 8UG

Who should come to the day?

Three people from each locality are invited:

  1. someone on your Partnership Board with responsibility for this area of work
  2. a parent with a learning disability
  3. someone from a local organisation that supports parents with a learning disability (e.g. an advocacy organisation) or a children’s social worker

Aims of the Parenting Toolkit Day

  • To give London localities a better understanding of the needs of parents with a learning disability
  • To show how the toolkit can be used to make local services for parents with a learning disability better
  • To help localities do what Valuing People Now says.
